IX Dni Twierdzy na Wyspach – Świnoujście

1. Swinoujscie in the fire of history

Every year Swinoujscie becomes a living history textbook. The city, which for centuries had important strategic, military and commercial functions, today opens up to enthusiasts of the past from all over Poland and abroad. The 9th edition of Fortress Days on the Isles is an event that combines tradition and modernity, attracting thousands of tourists, families with children and reconstructionists from different countries. It is a unique moment when the seaside air mingles with the smell of gunpowder, and the echo of history resounds between the walls of the forts and in the streets of the city.

1.1 A celebration of history in the heart of the city

The event center is located at the North Basin, on the side of Yacht Street. This is where all the paths of the historical journey converge. The location is not accidental - this is one of the most picturesque and functional areas of Swinoujscie, which is ideal for the organization of large outdoor events. This is where tents, stages, food areas and shows are set up. Spectators can observe camp life up close, talk to reconstructionists, touch authentic weapons and uniforms from different eras.

1.2 Reconstructionists from Poland and abroad in action

Dozens of reenactment groups take part in the event - from medieval knights to Napoleonic-era troops to World War II units. These are no mere dress-ups - each group takes care to be authentic down to the smallest detail. Weapons, uniforms, behavior and even the way of speaking - everything is subordinated to one goal: to faithfully recreate the realities of the era. Visitors can participate in drill demonstrations, observe battle re-enactments and even take part in historical workshops.

1.3 A program full of excitement and attractions

The event's program is designed so that everyone - regardless of age and interests - will find something for themselves. The three days are filled to the brim with attractions: from military shows to concerts to educational zones. The most exciting events are, of course, the great outdoor stagings, which attract thousands of spectators every year. But equally important are smaller events: meetings with authors of historical books, exhibitions, panel discussions or workshops for children.

1.3.1 Friday, June 20, 2025

Friday will see the grand opening of the new ferry service, which symbolically connects the islands and the past with the present. On that day, visitors can also tour the fortifications, attend educational sessions and take part in a night tour of the Underground City - one of the region's greatest military attractions.

1.3.2 Saturday, June 21, 2025

The most spectacular day. The historical parade will pass down Yacht Street, and then the grand outdoor spectacle "Clash of Empires - Birth of a City" will begin. This is a dynamic re-enactment with the participation of reconstructionists, military vehicles and pyrotechnic effects. In the evening, the band Perfect will perform along with Lukasz Drapala. The concert, which will take place outdoors, will be a musical conclusion to the whole day.

1.3.3 Sunday, June 22, 2025

The final day of the event is a time for reflection, a quieter tour of the forts and talks with history enthusiasts. Sunday will be an open day for Fort Angel and Fort West. The organizers have also planned smaller re-enactments and educational zones for the event's youngest participants.

1.4 Education, fun and patriotism in one place

Fortress Days is not just a show - it also has a very strong educational component. There are history lessons in the field, knowledge competitions, weapons presentations and stories about local heroes. It's a great opportunity for children to learn through play, and for adults to refresh their knowledge and feel pride in their national heritage. Historians are also present at the site, eager to share their knowledge with visitors.

1.5 Why visit Swinoujscie

Swinoujscie is not just an event venue - it is the perfect city for a long weekend or vacation. Proximity to the sea, beautiful beaches, modern infrastructure and numerous tourist attractions make a stay here not only a participation in the event, but a full rest. Fortress Days on the Islands is a great excuse to visit this unique city, tour the fortifications, taste the local cuisine and enjoy the delights of the Baltic Sea.

1.6 Practical information

All events take place at the North Basin, on Yacht Street. Admission to the events is free. The organizers provide parking, refreshments, toilets and family areas. It is advisable to come early - especially for the concert and grand re-enactment - due to the expected large number of participants. Comfortable footwear, headgear and a water bottle are recommended - especially for summer temperatures.

1.7. Swinoujscie is living history again

There is no other event like it in northwestern Poland. Fortress Days on the Islands is a project with soul, built by enthusiasts, supported by local authorities and loved by locals and tourists. Each edition brings new ideas, new reconstruction groups, new stories. But one thing doesn't change - the atmosphere of community, pride and fascination with history.
